Wow! It's been awhile! On Valentine's Day Corbin got sick! Followed by me! Followed by Tyson! Followed by poor little Hadley! I hate seeing my kids sick and helpless! Especially Hadley, she can't understand it and she gets sooo sad! She seems to be feeling a little better though......

My food has been a little of this and a little of that, and a little of whatever I feel like for the past week or so. I was up 2 pounds last week, and down 1 this week. The past couple of days I have been eating very "clean" but have not tracked. I have done a lot of baking/cooking! I made homemade granola bars, strawberry-banana muffins, spelt flour torillas, breakfast cookies (which actually do taste a little like cookies).
Yesterday, I had a breakfast cookie for breakfast, roasted butternut squash and asparagus with a spelt flour tortilla for lunch, a strawberry-banana muffin for a snack, and roasted butternut squash with lemon pepper crusted halibut for supper. Pretty good if you ask me! I can't really work out right now because of my nasty cough, so I am going to try to eat mostly good with the exception of this weekend because I am going away scrapbooking;) Might be hard to eat well!

Yummy halibut recipe:
Rinse and pat dry halibut.
Squeeze lemon juice over halibut and sprinkle with lemon pepper, salt, and pepper.
Coat in shake and bake or breadcrumbs.
Sprinkle a little more lemon pepper.
Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes or until halibut flakes.
Very good stuff!!!

Off the Wagon

I have fallen.............. hard! I keep having high hopes of tracking, and then I make it to lunch and I stop! I have not been eating horrible ALL the time, but at least one meal a day has not been good. I have even been trying to talk myself out of Weight Watchers, telling myself that I don't need it anymore and I could just try clean eating. Well..... obviously I don't have a good handle on portion control! I stayed-the-same at weigh-in this week, and i'm pretty sure I will have a gain on Tuesday:( At least I can recognize what I am doing to myself. I just read on a blog about a girl who is almost at goal and stopped tracking. She had one week of tracking everything and being good and lost 4 pounds! Wow!! I could maybe have that if I could get my act together! I have tried identifying what is causing me to sabotage myself like this..... Well...... I have not been sleeping well at all. We have had a lot of late nights and early mornings this past week! That's a big one! I get tired and then have no control on what I eat! It's ridiculous really! What else is there? Well really nothing. I need a plan!

Okay.... so here it is!

1. Get more sleep! Things aren't so crazy next week, so that shouldn't be too hard.

2. Meal plan. I have pretty much stopped this and our dinners have not been the healthiest.

3. Exercise! I even haven't done a lot of this the past couple of days.

4. Track. Obviously!

5. Water. Lots.

When I have been eating well, I have tried some pretty awesome things! On Thursday I had Sweet Potato Black Bean Burgers! So good! 3 ingrediants! Easy peasy! I am going to make some and freeze them! I had 2 patties on a WW english muffin, with salsa on top with a salad and that amazing salad dressing I have talked about! 9 points! Seriously!

Then yesterday I made Broccoli Cheddar Soup! It was really good! It tasted a lot like regular broccoli soup. I didn't have enough broccoli in it, so i'm thinking it would have been thicker and better with more, but it was still great!!
I did not count the points, but I am thinking it is 1 or 2 points per cup, and it's really filling!
I also brought back the Pumpkin Oatmeal this morning! So good! I haven't had it in awhile, but I think it is going to be a common thing in my morning oatmeal from now on!

I went to the doctor's a couple of weeks ago and was informed that my thyroid is finally under control! Here's my story:

In September of 2008 I found out that I was pregnant with our second child. During routine bloodwork they found that I was hypothyroid with my level at 21.3 (normal is between 0.3-3). I was told that everything shoud be okay with the baby since I found out so early in my pregnancy. In November of 2008 at my 3 month check up my doctor could not find the baby's heartbeat, and I found out that my baby had not made it past 8 weeks and 4 days. I went through a lot in the next 2 months. I had 2 minor surgeries.

My thyroid was crazy because of the pregnancy hormones and didn't get under control until May of 2009. We decided to wait to try for another baby until my body and mind were fully healed. I ran my first 5 k in May, and finally started to feel like myself again.

I found out that I was pregnant again in August of 2009 and had our baby girl in April 2010. By August my levels were under control again and by October they were at 14! I was so upset! Just when I was starting to feel better, my levels got bad again.

So now, just last week I found out that my levels are under control again, and I am so happy! I hope that this is the last I see of blood tests for awhile now! I finally feel happy, strong, lucky, and excited about the future and my health! I want every new mom out there to know about hypothyroidism, and that it is very common in pregnancy and post pregnancy. If you are not feeling right, just go to the doctor and have it checked out because there IS a reason for it.

Having hypothyroidism is horrible! I shrugged off all of my symptoms thinking they were all part of being a new mom! I was depressed, had trouble losing weight, didn't want to ever get out of bed, my hair was dry and falling out, I couldn't remember anything, I had mood swings, I thought that I was going crazy, and I stopped talking to most of my friends. I am lucky I have a patient husband or else I don't think we would have made it!

Being a Stay-At-Home-Mom is..............

Sometimes exhausting!! I have a sick/teething daughter, and a very "spirited" son! I did not have a lot of sleep last night so today was not looking good to begin with. My son pushed all my buttons today - hitting his sister, emptying bins of toys after I just finished putting them in there, and just plain old not listening to a word I said! It is so nice to have a little peace and quiet myself tonight!
So I was feeling so good yesterday, and then last night happened! I went to the Chiropractor and then shopping and then it was too late for dinner when I got home, so I just had chips and ice cream. The good side of this is that I did not eat ALL of the ice cream. I had a few bites and then gave the rest to T.
Today was good. I had oatmeal for breakfast, a pita and easy white bean soup for lunch, and turkey bacon and whole grain french toast for supper with berries and a little maple syrup. Then T left to go curling and I was tired and I pulled out a bag of chips to help get me through. Didn't work though;) The pita that I had today was awesome! I sprayed it with a little olive oil, sprinkled a little sea salt and Parmesan cheese on and broiled it for about 30 seconds. Just like pita chips. Seriously.
I did one hour on the elliptical today. I also downloaded a half marathon training plan from the Running Room. It looks like it will be pretty good, and I feel more comfortable having a real plan now!
I keep watching the show "Off the Map" every Wednesday thinking that it will get better, but it never does.
Here's to a good day tomorrow!

Feeling GOOD!

YAY! I had a 2 pound loss this week! I tried to be a lot better this past week, and it worked! It really helped that I didn't eat out. I tried to eat healthy within reason, and I worked out most days! I feel GOOD! I feel like I am getting stronger from running and strength training! I am 10 pounds away from my wedding/honeymoon weight (my body looks a little different from having 2 kids though). Why can't I be that girl whose body goes back to normal after having children?
My weekend was pretty awesome! I am taking a silversmith class and loving it!! I had no idea how much I would love it, but it is something I am becoming more and more excited about! I had two classes this weekend, gymnastics with the kids, and swimming with the fam! I also had a 45 minute run where I ran 10 and walked 1. I am going to focus on just completing my long runs, and during the week on my shorter runs, I am going to try getting a little faster and stronger!
My goals this week are going to be trying to blog a little more, drink lots of water, track my food, and try to stay healthy!

This week has been so much better than last! We went out for Vietnamese for dinner last night, and I ordered salad rolls and won ton soup! Usually I would order something calorie unfriendly like coconut curry chicken and white rice and spring rolls and deep fried won tons. I did have two coconut shrimps, but I only ate half of my soup. Tip: A good way to eat less at restaurants is to take your 3-year-old and 9-month-old with you! Today I had oats for breakfast, the rest of my won ton soup and an almond butter and jam sandwich on Ezekiel bread for lunch, and turkey chili with rye bread for supper. In between meals I ate a few raisin and oatmeal cookies, but after supper I wanted more cookies, and instead had an apple with laughing cow cheese:) Yay me! On Monday I made quinoa salad. I used 1 cup of quinoa, carrot, celery, green pepper, green onion, cucumber, and a tomato that was broiled in the oven for a few minutes. For a dressing I used dijon honey mustard and balsamic vinegar. It was so good and filling!
I have been working out good too this week! Strength on Saturday, 45 minute run on Sunday, 30 minute run on Monday, rest on Tuesday, 50 minutes on elliptical today!
We had our weigh-in yesterday, and I lost a pound!!?? I am really happy with that since I had a pretty rough week. If I can lose 12 more pounds by the time we run our half marathon (a little less than 5 months), then I have decided to reward myself with a new outfit from Lu Lu Lemon (running skirt possibly)? 12 more pounds and I will be at my wedding day weight! WooHoooo!! I have 5 months to lose 12 pounds, sounds easy right? But I have a feeling that it is going to get really tough after awhile!
Plan this week is to drink lots of water! Stay on points! Exercise 5 days!

Weekend Woes

I found some motivation yesterday, and rocked out on the treadmill for 30 minutes!! It felt GREAT! I did 20 running and then 10 on incline walking/running! I was feeling so good........ until the vet called to tell me that Kahlua's ashes are ready! Oh ya, my cat:((
I tried so hard to eat healthy, but I just couldn't! I NEEDED chocolate! Seriously! I am feeling a lot better today, but we are going on a date tonight for dinner and a movie! I can't wait, but know that bad choices are going to be made. Tomorrow is T's birthday so bad choices will presumably be made then too. Is it okay to just scrap the weekend and start over on Monday? Probably not a good idea, but I think I am going to roll with it. I have no doubt in my mind that there will be a gain on Tuesday:(

Thursday, January 20, 2011

I have no idea where it went! Tuesday was good! Really good! I think because I felt so crappy still.......... I followed my plan, minus the apple, add a rum and diet pepsi;) Yesterday was good too, kinda. I went over by one point. I ate very healthy, but then bought a dark chocolate fruit and nut bar. Not a regular size one, but a giant one! I shared a little with my son, and ate the rest myself. It was one of those need chocolate kind of days. Which brings me to today. Today is a need any kind of food kinda day! I started with oats, lunch was a turkey sandwich, followed by numerous other snacks (goldfish, chocolate chips, part of a Kashi bar). I have succumbed to the fact that I NEED food today. End of story.

But let me go back to yesterday! It was a really good day! I had an awesome workout. 35 minutes running on treadmill, and 15 minutes strength training. I then made a really good Easy White Bean Soup. I omitted the water, used a can of diced tomatoes, green pepper, curry powder, and oregano. It was really good. I would add in some water next time though. This soup is very filling, and it made 5 one cup portions. I measured and froze the other 4. The point count was 6 points but I think it is worth it! I had it with a slice of rye toast and a portion of laughing cow light cheese. For a total value of 8 points. Not too bad.

I have 2 apps which I love right now! The Nike GPS app which tracks my indoor runs. I have been using the treadmill so that is nice. Yesterday I accidentally ended my run halfway through and found an option for challenging yourself. You can try to beat your last run. So I tried to beat my last pace. Good motivation!! Didn't work though, too tired! I will definitely use this again though, because it was very good motivation! I also found the Nike Training app which is for strength training. I love it because I cannot lift weights alone, I don't have the attention span. It even gives videos of moves and counts down the time for you.
Ahhhh motivation, I hope you come back tomorrow!!!

A New Week

Last week was one of the worst I have had! My son was really sick, and my cat! My son got better, but my cat didn't. Unfortunately, we had to put my cat down yesterday:( It was SO sad, and I am still terribly upset about it! Everything reminds me of her in my house! My son asked if we could go and get her from Heaven now (my heart breaks). RIP Kahlua! You were the best cat ever!!!

I did not track anything last week, and have been doing a lot of emotional eating! Like this morning, I thought of my cat, started to cry, grabbed cookies! I know what I am doing, yet I think that I will somehow be cured of all of my grief with a few cookies (doesn't work by the way). My plan is to track what I eat with the assumption that it will still probably not be that good this week.

Weighed in today, and I lost one pound! I am kinda shocked because I haven't been tracking. I did work out quite a bit, and tried to eat a little healthy! I have plans to work out today if my stomach stops doing flip flops....... My plan for today:

Breakfast: 3/4 cup Honey Almond Flax Kashi Cereal, 1/4 cup Honey Puffed Kashi Cereal, 1/2 cup 2 % milk (out of skim), Coffee (it's back for awhile now) with 2% milk and agave nectar.

Snack: 3 Fruit Creme cookies (not part of plan but it happened)

Lunch: 2 slices of Rye bread, 2 hard-boiled eggs, 2 Laughing Cow wedges, one tomato.

Snack: Apple

Supper: Whole wheat spaghetti with homemade lentil spaghetti sauce.

And lots of lemon water! My friend sees a naturopathic doctor and she said that lemon water helps with digestion. I might as well give it a try.

We'll see how this goes, but that is my "plan" for today.

Bringing the Coffee Back

I have had a pretty rotten past couple of days:( My cat was still getting sick yesterday, so I had to take her back to the vet to get x-rays and blood tests. The x-rays came back good, so now we are waiting on the bloodwork to come back. The vet prepared me for the worst, and the possibility that she may have to be put down. After I brought her home yesterday she just went downhill, and I am afraid that I may lose my poor kitty today. I have had her for 9 years! 9 crazy years of finding myself, falling in love, and having 2 children. It is going to be so hard to let her go........................ K, enough sentimental stuff..............

On to other things though. My son has been sick, and got sick in our bed at about 1 in the morning. So, after all the sheets were changed and he was feeling better and back to bed, my daughter woke up teething. She decided to stay up for an hour, and all of those things combined are the reason why I BROUGHT COFFEE BACK this morning! I made it two wonderful days coffee free, but this morning I really needed it!

We had our weigh-in yesterday morning and I lost 3 pounds! Great feeling! My thyroid levels have been high for the past few months so I have gone back and forth with weight loss and gain and feeling bad, but I think that it is finally stabilized! I am still trying to keep somewhat on track, but with everything going on I haven't been able to work out and haven't felt like tracking points. I am hoping in the next couple of days that everything will go back to normal a little and I can get back at er'!

Breakfast today was oats with coffee (milk and agave nectar).

Lunch was 2 small slices of vegetarian pizza with salad and this amazing salad dressing:

Supper will be a chicken stir fry with Litehouse Sesame Ginger marinade and brown rice. I cut up all the vegetables early in case I have to take my cat to the vet.

Cabbage, bok choy, carrots, onion, red pepper, mushrooms, and broccoli.

Working it Out

The past couple of days have been pretty busy. I did manage to do 40 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. I ran 5.7 kms! Pretty good for me since I haven't done a lot of running lately! I also shoveled more snow last night, and feel super sore today! Then today I did 18 minutes running, (I was feeling pretty tired) and then 10 walking on an incline. It feels so good to be exercising again, and I can't wait to keep building up my distance. I can honestly say that I love running!

Food choices have been pretty good the past couple of days too. Today I had oats for breakfast, (big surprise) and tea!! Yes tea and it felt good! I didn't even miss the coffee. 2 eggs, and a salad for lunch, and tuna sandwich for dinner. I have 8 points left, but I don't feel like eating them today. T and the little guy are a little stomach sick so hopefully i'm not getting it. I am doing a weekly weigh in with my mom and sister-in-law tomorrow. This will be our first week seeing results, and hopefully they are good ones!

I had to take my poor diabetic kitty to the vet today, and they think she has pancreatitis or something? So she is on medication for it. So now every morning and evening I have to give her a shot of insulin, and inject this medicine in her mouth. Oh, and also feed her 5 small servings of
food for the next 3 days. Oh, and also take care of a 3 year old and 9 month old! Ahh but I love my life and wouldn't trade its craziness for anything;)))

Saturday, January 8, 2011

It has been snowing since last night here! They are calling for over a foot by the end of the weekend! Craziness! So we decided to go to the mall! It was far less busy than a regular day, which was very nice! T (my husband) had some clothes to exchange, and I went to David's tea and took my son to the Sea Life Caverns. I am all for neat stuff that my little guy will enjoy, but these animals were in little tiny rooms they could barely fit in. It made me pretty sad for them, and I don't think that I will be going back there!

My choices today have been pretty bad! Things started out so good. The usual oats for breakfast, hard-boiled egg, 1 slice of rye toast, and laughing cow cheese for lunch, then we went to the mall and by the time we got home I was starving! Never a good idea. We decided to order Vietnamese for supper, and for a snack I had the skinny taco dip with whole grain tortillas (I didn't go scrap booking because the roads are so bad). For supper I ordered a chicken broth based seafood soup with rice noodles and T ordered spring rolls and deep fried won tons. Well, I had to have some of those............. and now I feel gross! Too much eating! I did however, try "Read My Lips" from David's Tea! Amazing! Chocolate, mint, vanilla.......what more could you ask for in a tea?

Oh well, tomorrow is a new day! I will drink tons of water, and make sure I work out! For exercise today we shoveled snow! Super hard work when there is so much of it!

We watched Dinner for Schmucks last night, and we thought it was super funny! Totally surprising, because I thought it would be dumb;))) Maybe Inception tonight?

What a Day!

I have a teething daughter, and was up pretty much all night with her last night! She is so lucky that she is totally adorable:) It's crazy how a little less sleep makes the mind lose motivation! I have been battling with choices all day! I have been pretty good though........ So far.......

For breakfast: Oats (4), almond hazelnut butter (1), banana (0), fat free cream (1), coffee (0)

Snack: hard boiled egg (2)

Lunch: Veggie sandwich with hummus: 2 slices of rye bread (3), hummus (1), green pepper (0), cucumber (0), green onion (0), romaine lettuce (0), carrots (0)

Snack: Almond butter ball (3)

Supper: Basa fillet (2), orange (0), Uncle Ben's Rice (5ish?), salad

I want to save some points for maybe some popcorn or a drink or whatever else Friday might bring. I am really worried about this weekend. Weekends have always been my weak point for some reason? I have a plan, but things never go accordingly.

Tomorrow night I am going scrap booking and everyone has to bring a snack. I am taking a skinny taco dip, and there will be vegetables and fruit, so I will try to stick to healthy stuff for the most part.

No chocolate before bed last night!!! So proud of myself! That was a big one. Also drank lots of water again!! I am down almost 3 pounds in 4 days!! Now to get through the weekend......

In other news, we picked a half marathon to do!!! My brother and sister-in-law and I are going to go to Footstock in June! I am so excited and started my training yesterday;))) We are going to have a camping trip and run somewhere super scenic and nice!
Here's to having a moderate points weekend!

Teddy Bear's Picnic

I know I have only had this blog for a few days, and my mom is the only one who reads it, (hi mom) but I feel like I am so much more accountable for it! I drank tons of water yesterday and have been doing pretty good again today. I stayed mostly on points yesterday, with the exception of 1 point. The evening chocolate thing is not going so well though. Maybe tonight..........

I tried my coffee this morning with sweetener and fat free creamer.............. not loving the sweetener taste! Oh how I miss my mocha almond fudge creamer (but it's 2 points that could be used elsewhere). This weekend I am going to hit up the mall, and get some tea from David's Tea. They have a million flavours and it is so good! Wish me luck in kicking the morning coffee habit!

Last nights dinner was amazing!!! I made Spinach Lasagna Rolls from Gina's Skinny Recipes:
For 6 points+ you get one fairly large, fairly filling roll. I could have stopped at one for sure, but it was so good that I ate another half of one. My husband said that he would like them if I put some meat in them, so next time I will make a couple for him with meat.

Everyone in our house is sick now! We all have the cough/cold and my son was running a high fever yesterday:( It has not been fun. So today we had a Teddy Bear's Picnic! Fun!!!

Goals for today will to be to keep up with the water and no chocolate before bed, or at least cut down on the chocolate before bed;)

1/2 Marathon Decision!

I am off to a good start so far! It has been 3 days of tracking my food now;) I have only gone over by 1 point, and have been sneaking a little chocolate in every night. I know that I have to cut that out, but it is making everything a lot easier right now! I find it way easier and less stressful with this meal plan. I shouldn't have to go to the grocery store until next week, and I know that we have food for dinners every night!

I am STILL sick so no working out for me! Exercise today is going to have to be playing in the snow with my little guy! I have decided to sign up for a half marathon! I got so excited when I thought about it, and know that it is exactly what I need to motivate myself! My husband moved my elliptical last night, so I now have a treadmill and elliptical (crosstraining).

My goal for today is to drink lots of water and stay on points! Hopefully I can get better soon and start training;) So excited!!!

Staying on Plan

So I have been doing Weight Watchers online for the past couple of months, and for the past month I have not been following it! I started back on it yesterday, and I already feel so much better. It's amazing how eating healthier can make you feel so good! Try to remember that next time your tempted by pizza or chocolate Keltie........ I love the new points + plan because I can eat all the vegetable and fruit I want for 0 points. Working out has not happened yet because I am still pretty sick, but we did take the kids skating today. Here is what I have eaten today:

Breakfast: 1 cup oats, 1 banana, 1 tsp almond hazelnut butter, vanilla, cinnamon, coffee with cream (7 points +)

Lunch: Vegan lentil walnut loaf, carrots, cucumber (6 points +)

Tim Hortons coffee with 2 milk and 1 sweetener (1points +)

Dinner: Vegan lentil walnut loaf, spinach, sweet potato with 1 tbsp plain yogurt and cayenne pepper (10 points+)

I still have 5 points left! Yay for being sick and not having a normal appetite!

The lentil loaf was just okay. I made one yesterday and since I am the only one eating it, I am trying to use it up.
Skating with the happiest little guy in the world;)

Ringing in the New Year sick.......

So last night we went to my brother and sister-in-law's for New Year's. We had a "Mexican" themed Wii night! It was a lot of fun, but unfortunately I got sick:( I tried to push through, but in the end my killer sore throat and cold won! On the plus side I woke up this morning with no hangover! We had a lot of fun last night eating tacos, guacamole, corn and black bean salad, chips..... etc. The food was awesome and I definitely overindulged with food and champagne and Baha Rosa shots! We worked a little off playing the Wii, but it definitely wasn't the healthiest night, and today has not been much better! Tomorrow I am starting over! Tonight I am going to throw out all the junk that we have accumulated over the holidays. Stay tuned.............
